Michelle Collins is the latest star rumoured to be stepping onto the dancefloor for the next series of ‘Strictly Come Dancing’.
The soap actress, who left ‘Coronation Street’ in April after three years of playing pub landlady Stella Price, has reportedly been approached by producers to get on her dancing shoes for the forthcoming series of the BBC show.
A source told The Sun on Sunday: “Michelle is a great name and the ‘Strictly’ team would love to sign her up. It’s early days but all the signs seem promising.
“For Michelle, Strictly also has the bonus that it is London-based.
“She left Corrie because she wanted to be in London with her daughter. So the last thing she would want is another job that would take her away again. Strictly would guarantee her three months in London.”
The newspaper’s source added that an appearance on ‘Strictly’ would help raise her profile, after the star complained towards the end of her time on ‘Coronation Street’ that her character wasn’t getting enough screen time.
They said: “It is no secret appearing on the show can lead to celebrities’ careers skyrocketing if they go on to land a fantastic job shortly afterwards.”
Michelle isn’t the only ‘Corrie’ star to have been linked to an appearance on ‘Strictly’, as Helen Flanagan has expressed interest in appearing in the dancing show in the past, while Michelle Keegan has recently denied rumours that she will be among the contestants on this year’s series.
Meanwhile, the next series of ‘Strictly’ will be the first without Bruce Forsyth at the helm, with Claudia Winkleman the current favourite to co-present the show alongside returning host Tess Daly.
Mark Wright has already revealed that he “has some interest” in getting his dancing shoes on for the show…
… But fianceé Michelle Keegan won’t be joining him. “Michelle is a fan of ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ however there are no plans for her to join the show, she will be concentrating on her acting career in 2014,” a spokesperson told MailOnline.
Judy Murray’s pal Andrew Castle has volunteered her for the show, telling The Sun he reckons “she’d surprise people” and do really well as a contestant.
Joey Essex certainly plans to bring something different along if he can agree a deal with BBC bosses. “I love to dance,” he said when asked about making an appearance. “But I want to do more cool dancing. Maybe I should go on it and mix it up and do a bit of break-dancing.”
Helen Flanagan’s no stranger to reality TV, but at least a stint on ‘Strictly’ won’t require her to chow down on any jungle creepy-crawlies. The actress has previously spoken about her desire to appear on the show, saying: “I’d like to learn a new skill, so ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ would be good.”
Mary Berry’s lack of dancing skills mean she won’t be waltzing across our TV screens any time soon. “My legs are not coordinated,” she confessed on the BBC Breakfast sofa. “I would be terrified, it would be the last thing in the world.”
Danniella Westbrook took to Twitter earlier this year to deny that she’s in talks to do ‘Strictly’. However the former ‘EastEnders’ star hasn’t explicitly ruled out making an appearance.
Sharon Osbourne’s son Jack has revealed that he reckons his mum would be fab on the show. “Mum’s a great dancer. She trained at the same place a lot of professional dancers on the shows studied,” he told The Sun. “She’s got close to doing ‘Strictly’ before but has been too busy.”
James ‘Arg’ Argent is yet another ‘TOWIE’ star who wants to get his dancing shoes on. Arg hasn’t signed on the dotted line yet, but does reckon “he’s in their [the boss’s] thoughts”. If you say so, James…
